Domaine L'Hortus De Bergerie Rose De Saignee Wine 2

Wine Number two, a French Rose from France...Yeah we shall go with that, its dark and im to lazy to turn on a light. Wine is definitly interesting in the fact that it isn't that fruit play, which a lot of Roses for me have not been totally Strawberry Pie Roses, Im getting stuff thats just I guess a little more ?complicated? or ?different?.

The Stats:
Domaine De L'Hortus de Bergerie
Rose De Saignee
A Blend.
13.5% Alc
Coteaux de Languedoc

The Eye:
A Orangie Tint to this Rose, So Red meets orange?

The Nose:
First thing I noticed was Celery Salt, that dried concenrated sweet celery not fresh celery. Kinda of neat almost like a "MSG" / Umami play.

The Mouth:
Day 1, some fruit semi ripe necterines, good acidity
Day 2 Tomato stalk juice play, very thick now the wine [Maybe because a fly fell into the wine bottle! contamined wine!]

Overall/Reflection:
Score: 86 Overall an Ok wine, some interesting veggie play for those who like that, as for me not really so much thats why the 86 but If I was more of a veggie guy most likely a couple more points

Pascual Toso Malbec Rose 2008

Well this is not Salmon....or Pink. This wine is Bloody Strawberry Fruit Punch, I mean its so dark I think it would pass for a Claret of the 18th Century. But well Nose/Taste it could pass for a Fruity Burgundy? hmmm maybe we shall seeee

The Stats:
Pascual Toso
Malbec Rose 2008
Malbec
13% Alc
Mendoza, Argentina

The Eye:
Dark Strawberry Jam, A Red Fruit Punch Colour. Dark no other way to put it

The Nose:
Now this is where it gets interesting, a Wine that is a rose in sight yet on the nose it has that old world nose close to a Pinot Noir, I mean all signs point to Pinot Noir if you could not see the wine.

The Mouth:
Starts off with the Strawberry / Rhubarb notes when slightly Chilled really nice acidity, But once it starts to warm and open it up it move into a Creamy Rich Mouth Feel big/full. And then it reminds me of a Pinot Noir its the craziest thing, I mean there are aspects that do and aspects that you know this is a Rose. But mm interesting and heck for 15.99 canadian its like a good cheap Pinot Noir! hah can't go wrong

Overall/Reflection:
Score: 89 I think that the fact it has those notes of Pinot Noir it gets that 89 Points, tho in reality it isn't "Overly" complex I mean don't get me wrong this is a great rose.

Well here is the end of Round 1 and the 3rd Wine.

The Stats:

Vendanges Manuelles [Rose] 2008
13% Alc
Cotes De Provence
Vines Grow in Red Bauxite Soil, On the Foothills of the Cengle De La Sainte Victoire, Situated in Chateaneuf-Le-Rouge. Those are the coles notes of the back of the bottle!

The Eye:
Light Salmon in Colour

The Nose:
Touch of Tart, Fruit other then that very unexciting

The Mouth:
Now this is kinda of shocking to me, a wine from Provence being this Tart, I mean imagine this made into a Sparkling it would be awesome but its to tart for a rose I think. Its ok but very Tart good amount of green appleness but not that malic acid I get from some wines I explain as tart also

Overall/Reflection:
An Interesting Wine, for the Fact its Tart from Provence, but other then one dimensional kidna of boring might be to tart for some people

Score: 83

Domaine Houchart Rose 2008 Round 1 Wine 2

Minerality. - Is something that I couldn't really put my hand on, and a lot of time I call bullshit on people calling such and such wine having Minerality. Like the day I was at a NZ tasting and the guy was tasting a wine and nodding how good it was with great minerality, I was excited because I have been and am still trying to nail down minerality. Well to me it didn't have any minerality. This wine does. And A Ton of It.

The Stats:

Domaine Houchart
Rose 2008
Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah
13% Alc
Cotes De Provence
Weird Shaped Bottle, not the same label when googled on the Internet

The Eye:

The Colour is very Watermelon Juice very with maybe a drop of red to make it a little more red? Also can be described as watered down cranberry juice with a hint of pink

The Nose:

Day 1: Has the smell of Watemelon but the White Part, not the fruit or the green skin, Cranberry and a "Watery" Smell which I can deduce as minerality.
Day 2: Almost the same but a lot more open, not as closed

The Mouth:

Day 1: Now this is Minerality, it taste like a bunch of rock and Chalk in my mouth and its very interesting to say the least. Red fruit, Good Acidity

Day 2: Now this wine has opened up (half of bottle recorked in my wine fridge) opened it and there was some pressure build up over night. Minerality is still present but toned down a bit definitly chalky. A Crab Apple meets Cherry aspect going on I guess its the sweetness that gives that cherry'ness but it definitly is tart. And a nice little touch of bitterness which is nice gives it a nice balance

Overall/Reflection:

A Much better showing for a Rose then the first, The smelling like water is really interesting and cool at the same time. Good effort I like it when it finally opened up on day 2

Score: 88 A Very good wine, solid nothing bad to say about

La Vieille Ferme Round 1 Wine 1

The First Wine, and Well it isn't a winner, tho i did start with the cheapest /shrug

The Stats:

La Vieille Ferme

Recolte 2007 (Rose)

50% Cinsault, 40% Granache, 10% Syrah

13% Alc

Cotes Du Ventoux

The Eye:

The Colour reminds me of Pink Cotton Candy, the Colour is definitely Pink, almost on the Fake Side

The Nose:

Nothing to report here really, tho when glass was empty and I left it out overnight it did smell sweet and syrupy hah

The Mouth:

It has a lot of good acidity, with pairing it went "well" with Greek Salad and Elk Sausage, but the wine didn't change for the better or worse. The wine really has nothing to do. It is non-offensive, meaning if you hated strawberry's or liked strawberry well you ain't getting any of that in here.

Overall/Reflection:

Would not buy this again. I am going to make a prediction and say this wine comes in 3rd place for the round and I've just started hah

Score: 75 A average non-offenive wine

Its Salmon, NOT PINK! Round 1

I am going to start around of 3 roses as often as I Can, aka Depending how much I drink. I would like to do atleast 4 rounds by the end of summer, ranking them based on the 3 I had, Then Maybe at the end of the Summer get the winners of each one and do a Rose night with some friends and see who really wins!

So I am a Fan of Rose, I enjoy whites wines, they both have the quality of a refreshing summer sipper, Like a Beer. I just can't drink beer like wine, once in awhile and it has to be really good beer hah.

So this Round, Number 1!
